Book Review: 40 Things You Can Do to Save the Jewish People by Joel Lurie Grishaver.

This handbook, which is subtitled Some really practical ideas for parents who want to raise "good enough" Jewish Kids to insure that the Jewish people lasts at least another generation, is just that. From the introduction, titled "How Much Can I Get Away With and Still Go To Heaven?" through the chpaters "Never Think that Any One Thing Will Work," "Always Remember Shabbat -- Even When You Don't Keep It," "Make Your House Smell Jewish," and "Become a Mezuzah Kisser," it is full of ideas designed not to make you feel bad that you don't do more, but to encourage you that what you are doing is good and to fill you with hope that it isn't really too difficult to do even better -- and maybe you will even do it someday soon. While some of the ideas seem very elemental, and are things you are probably already doing, others are very creative approaches to problems faced by not-very-observant-Jews living in a non-Jewish society. Recommended, and on the shelf now! (Or in the pile next to the shelf, I'm not sure.)

With regard to general library business: We are looking forward to new bookshelves!

Cheers and happy (Jewish) reading,
